All new Skoda Superb B8 revealed in Prague; India launch in 2016

New Skoda Superb three quarter front view

Skoda recently launched its new Superb in Prague. This third generation model has been developed based on Volkswagens new MQB platform. The new vehicle has been completely revamped, and looks way better than its predecessor.  The car is based on the vision C concept, and has extremely sharp lines all along. Everything has been given a fresh makeover, from the front grille to the wheel arches to the headlamps. The car has a completely new fascia, with the instantly recognizable Skoda grille upfront.  The headlamps too have been given a sharper design and compliment the front grille well.

A simple way to describe the Superb is by calling it an oversized sedan. The design elements scream Sedan, while the cars size completely make it evident that it’s a big saloon. The car has a receding roofline (top spec gets panoramic sunroof). The wheel arches are much larger, and give the car an aggressive feel. The cars wheelbase is 80 mm longer than its outgoing model, and is 61 mm shorter. The legroom remains the same at 157mm, but the elbow room has been increased by 69mm.

The inside of the car features the angular theme as seen in the C-concept as well. It features a new infotainment system based on the MQB concept. Top spec variants will get new features like iPhone/android connectivity and the works. The rear seat gets a tablet holder, along with space to keep the tablet when not in use. The car also gets umbrellas in both the doors, as compared to one in the previous model. The boot space has been increased by 30litres, also all the doors (except the drivers) can be folded down to make more room.

Coming to safety and driving dynamics, Skoda went all out with this one. The car sports features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, emergency braking assist crew protection assist, traffic jam assist and attention assist. Also included are 7 airbags, blind spot warning, ESP and ABS. The engine is identical to the old one, but Skoda claims it is 30% more fuel efficient. Here’s looking to an exceptional car.

Expected launch: January 2016
