New Mercedes A-Class Facelift Revealed
Mercedes has unveiled the A-Class facelift to the international automobile market, giving the premium hatchback many tweaks to the exterior and interior layout. The engines have also been updated for the new model.
The new A-Class gets a completely redesigned front bumper, Mercedes diamond grille (standard on all variants), optional LED headlamps, restyled tail-lamps and integrated exhausts. There is a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the inside of the hatch, which comes with Apple Carplay and Mirror link software’s for the higher variants. The cabin gets new materials and new colour choices as well, while the top-end trims get optional ambient lighting.
The A180’s diesel engine has been modified to reduce emissions and also increase mileage. The A220 diesel on the other hand gets more power from the initial 168 BHP to 175 BHP. According to the company’s new nomenclature, the CDI badging gets replaced by‘d’ at the end, thereby resulting in the A180d and the A220d models. Coming to the performance AMG version, power has been bumped up by 21 BHP to 376 BHP. The seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission has also been modified to offer faster and smoother gear shifts.
The Mercedes A-Class facelift is offered with the German car maker’s Dynamic Select System with three driving modes – Eco, Sport and Comfort. What this system does is that it uses adaptive dampers to allow the driver to adjust the suspension settings. This system comes as optional to all models, save for the Sport trim which gets the feature as standard. The Sport trim gets an added choice of getting a 7G-DCT double clutch automatic transmission fitted. A reverse parking camera now comes as standard on all the variants, but the Sport trim gets an additional climate control system as well.
The A-Class facelift will go on sale in the international market next month with deliveries starting from September onwards. The premium hatch is expected to hit Indian shores soon after it’s launched internationally. However, the Indian A-Class facelift will only be powered by the current crop of engines retailed on the outgoing model.
