New Ford Ecosport Diesel to get a bump in power; launching in 2016
The 2016 Ford Ecosport facelift was recently launched in the UK market. The American auto giant will be launching three new models in India in 2015 followed by the new Ecosport in the first quarter of 2016.
The Ecosport facelift was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this year. The most noticeable difference is the missing tail gate mounted spare wheel. However, this revision is only for the Ecosports sold in Europe, where the consumer gets the choice of buying the vehicle minus the spare wheel. But this option will not be available to buyers in India.
The main reason as to why the European buyers will get the option to choose the spare wheel is because customers consider this as an additional expense. Run flat tyres are the preferred choice in Europe, which nullifies the use of a spare tyre. Indian buyers on the other hand prefer the tail gate mounted spare wheel as it gives the mini SUV a more rugged look.
Coming to the exteriors of the Ecosport facelift there are no major changes. The urban SUV features slight exterior tweaks in the form of a new headlight cluster with LED DRLs, silver cladding for front and rear bumpers, new 17 inch alloy wheels and roof rails which are optional.
Inside the cabin the new Ford Ecosport interior features an all-black theme, backlit dimming function, four-inch colour screen, power window controls with chrome tabs, additional controls on the steering wheel and a repositioned handbrake lever.
The new Ecosport will be available with both petrol and diesel engines.
>1.5 litre TiVCT petrol motor which produces 112 PS and 140Nm of twist. Power is channelized to the front wheels through a five-speed MT and a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
> The Ford Ecosport diesel will get its juice from a 1.5 litre oil burner which churns out 91 PS and 215 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
> 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine puts out 125 PS and 170 NM of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
All variants come with a front wheel drive system, 4X4 option is not available.
In India the compact SUV will be priced between Rs 6 lakh – 10 lakh. When launched in India, the facelifted model will fight it out with the yet to be launched Maruti`s compact SUV the YBA.
