New face-lifted Maruti Dzire and automatic Swift coming soon!

With increasing competition Maruti Suzuki plans to launch the face-lifted Dzire in February and the AMT powered Swift diesel at the end of this year to keep its market share intact.

Maruti has enjoyed majority market share since its launch. Almost all its models have been a raging success in India (barring the odd experiments where Maruti tried entering different segments). The Swift was an immediate success when it was launched, and still continues to be one of the hottest selling hatches in the country. The sedan model of the swift called the Dzire was an instant hit too. After the diesel engines were given on option, there was no stopping them!

Now after a long time, Maruti has given a fresh boost of life to the Dzire. The updated car will be given visual upgrades on the exterior as well as on the interior. The company has made subtle changes on the front fascia of the car. Updated front bumpers, updated headlamps a new chrome grill and an amazing new alloy wheel design give the car a fresh sporty look. On the inside the Dzire gets Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, keyless entry, push button start. The engine however will remain the same 1.3 litre diesel producing 75PS power and 190 Nm torque.

New Maruti Swift

Maruti plans to launch the Swift with an automatic transmission as well. The combination of a diesel engine with automatic transmission will be a hit in urban areas where there is a lot of traffic, and people want to keep their running costs low. The diesel already gives an average of 25.2 Kmpl, which could increase with the help of an auto box. Maruti had launched its own auto box on the Celerio, which seems to be doing well in the market. The swift, which already sells in high volumes, would receive a major boost with an auto box upgrade.

When the new Swift was launched in 2012, there was a 6-month waiting due to its high demand. No doubt the Swift and Dzire are ideal affordable cars in the hatchback and sedan segment, and would receive good customer feedback with the new launches.

The Maruti Dzire is priced at 5.03 lakhs (ex-showroom) currently and the Swift is priced at 4.58 lakh (ex showroom).
