New BMW X1 revealed, Coming to India next year
BMW vehicles are famous for the sheer driving pleasure that they offer that is debatably incomparable to other luxury brands all over the world. When someone owns a BMW, the person generally sticks to the company when upgrading to another vehicle unless he/she wants to be chauffer driven.
The X1 initially was the company’s entry level vehicle in India, before the 1-series was launched. The SUV helped the German car maker at one point of time become the leading luxury manufacturer in India in terms of sales. But things have changed now because both Audi and Mercedes have an SUV which fares much better than the aging BMW X1.
In light of this, BMW has just unveiled the second-generation X1 and its looks much more grown up when compared to its predecessor. One of the main changes the SUV receives is its new ‘UKL1′ underpinnings, which is a smart new modular platform which is already found on the latest crop of BMW`s and Mini`s. The main highlight of this architecture is that it’s front-wheel drive.
This comes as disappointing news for enthusiasts, but BMW feels otherwise. One up-side of the front-wheel drive system is that the interior has been able to grow in size. The new BMW car is 21mm wider and 53mm taller than its predecessor, offers more leg room, knee room and shoulder room though the vehicle’s length is now shorter.
The entry-level SUV is powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine and a three-cylinder diesel mill offered in different states of tune. All-wheel drive is also available for those who like to take the occasional beaten path. All engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 2016 BMW X1 will be offered in five variants – Base, Advantage, Sport Line, xLine and M Sport. The SUV is expected to do well in the market with the latest update and will give tough competition to the Mercedes GLA and the Audi Q3 in the segment. With the new Bimmer looking all set to capture the market once again, the X1 will definitely bring alive BMW’s sales in the coming future. Ain’t that a comeback?
