Mitsubishi compact MPV teased; launch in 2017

New Mitsubishi Compact MPV

Japanese auto manufacturer Mitsubishi is working on a new compact MPV to rival the likes of the Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga. As per a report from Autocar Indonesia, the Multi Purpose Vehicle is still being developed and is expected to go into production only in August 2017. Mitsubishi has released the very first teaser image of the forth-coming MPV and the vehicle has a resemblance to the Concept AR which was showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The company likes to call the Concept AR as the Active Runabout, which is the next-gen compact MPV. The teaser image doesn’t reveal much detail about the car; though it looks like a seven-seater MPV. The concept model used a hybrid system with a downsized 1.1 litre gasoline MIVEC motor.

The compact MPV will be first launched in Indonesia and the company hasn’t revealed any plans of launching it in India. Since the product has been designed for the Indonesian market, where petrol is the more popular fuel, it will be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol motor only. If Mitsubishi decides to bring it to the Indian market, a diesel engine would definitely be on the cards.

Mitsubishi is still struggling to gain market share in the country and needs to launch new products to revive sales. Last year the company launched the Pajero Sport automatic and now a little birdie tells us that the Attrage sedan and the new Outlander could find their way to the Indian shores in the near future.
