Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz continues to enthral Indian consumers with its exclusive, expensive and this time with a special-protection version of the armoured Mercedes-Benz S Guard. The Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard was one of the costliest car`s launched in India last year at a price tag of Rs. 8.9 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The German auto giant has now decided to bring in a more exclusive variant of the car called the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard made an appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to debut in the Indian car market on 8th March. The luxury car has been specifically designed to provide additional safety and security to the top-notch business leaders and politicians around the world.

The USP of this armoured Merc lies in the VR10 protection it offers, which happens to be the highest ballistic protection level for civilian vehicles as per the 2009 Directive BRV (Bullet Resistant Vehicles) Version 2. This first ever VR10 certified vehicle can combat the hardened steel-core bullets shot from an assault rifle and even rocket-propelled grenades. It even gets a 2010 rating ERV (Explosive Resistant Vehicles). The bodyshell of the Maybach S600 has special steel fused in between the body structure and the outer skin, while the insides of the windows have been layered with polycarbonate for splinter protection.

For protection from explosive devices set underneath the car, the tried and tested underbody armouring of the S600 Guard protects the underbelly from any unwarranted attack. The armoured vehicle can even withstand a 15 kg TNT blast from a distance of two metres. The fuel tank however isn’t protected but is coated with a special material which immediately seals any holes in case of a blast. In the event of a gas attack the optional fresh-air system injects fresh air into the cabin. To get this armoured beast moving, the good folks at Mercedes have plonked a V12 under the hood which bangs out an eye popping 523 bhp. What more do you need?
