Mercedes Benz S600 Guard launched at Rs 8.9 crore in India
Mercedes Benz launched the S600 Guard in Delhi, at an ex-showroom price of INR 8.9 crore. The vehicle is basically a small tank in civilian motor vehicle clothing. The S600 has been certified VR9, which is the highest ballistics protection currently. The vehicle can withstand gunfire from military grade rifle, and take explosions from Grenades.
“We are glad to introduce this ‘fortress on wheels’ for our exclusive set of high profile Indian customers, who require the highest levels of protection when on the move, and rely only on Mercedes-Benz special protection vehicles. With first-class comfort, an outstanding AIRMATIC suspension, powerful V12 engine, intelligent driver assistance systems and unrestricted day-to-day suitability, the new flagship Guard model sets an unprecedented new standard in this segment. With the launch of the new S600 Guard, Mercedes-Benz India now provides a formidable range of special protection vehicles comprising the E-Guard and M-Guard, for the Indian market,” is what the Managing director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Mr. Ebernhard Kern had to say.
The vehicle has components of special steel in between the cavities of the body structure and outer shell. These act like a very strong bulletproof coating. The glass has been integrated with polycarbonate on the inside, and provides protection to the passengers from splinters. Critical points on the vehicle have overlapping systems to ensure safety of the person travelling. From the outside though, the vehicle looks like a normal S class.
Powering the S600 Guard is a 12-cylinder petrol engine power pack, punching out 530 hp and about 830 Nm of torque. The engine has been mated to a 7G-Tronic auto transmission. The extra power is of immense help, as the car weighs about 2 tons more than a normal S-Class. The car has run flat tyres, so incase an incident occurs, the vehicle can travel 30 km on flat tyres.
Many top industrialists and Bollywood actors will consider getting one!
