Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV leaked prior to international unveil
It’s raining SUVs at the moment. Mercedes-Benz in particular has been on its toes, updating its current SUV portfolio regularly and launching various new models alongside. The next major SUV from the German company is the GLS. To replace the current GL-Class, exterior design of the new GLS has just been leaked through some pictures doing rounds on the internet.
The leaked brochure images show what the production model will actually look like. To start off with the changes, Mercedes has fiddled with the design to make the SUV look much more premium than the current GL range. The front and rear bumpers have been reworked, which freshens up the two profiles. The side gets newly designed alloy wheels.
The major changes of the upcoming Mercedes GLS are under the hood. In the international markets, the SUV gets a host of updated engines, out of which one is the V6 diesel engine that produces 254 BHP of power on the GLS350d variant. If certain rumours are to be believed, then a smaller diesel engine will also be launched for certain markets. This variant might be called the GLS250d. The most powerful engine will be the 5.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that outputs 577 BHP of power. This massive powertrain will be found in the performance oriented GLS63 AMG. All the diesel motors will be driven by the company’s latest 9-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes also offers a plug-in hybrid version of the GL in other countries. The new Mercedes GLS will also get the same variant carrying the GLS 500e badge. Powering it will be a twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine that generates 328 BHP of power and one electric motor that also features on the GLE hybrid SUV.
A lot is expected from the new model when it comes to offering luxury and performance. Till then’ let’s wait for it’s unveil that will take place in Los Angeles.
