Mercedes Benz GLS to launch in India on May 18
Mercedes Benz India has been continuously launching new products in the Indian market to enhance its portfolio and strengthen its brand presence in the country. Some of its launches this year include the C250d and the S400. Our sources close to the company have informed us that Mercedes is all-set to launch an upgraded version of their successful SUV, named as the GLS.
Previously known as the GL-Class, this new Mercedes SUV is said to offer a combination of luxury and road presence. On the exterior front, no significant changes have been observed and the GLS looks very similar to the previous generation model although a new LED headlamp setup, a revised front grille and tail lamp setup has been added in order to give it a fresh look. The newest feature added to the Merc GLS is the COMAND infotainment setup that includes an iPad type touchscreen display to showcase media, navigation and other controls of the car. Inside the cabin, the GLS gets Nappa leather seats and a new 3-spoke steering wheel.
Under the hood of the GLS, would be a 3.0L V6 diesel engine that will bang out 255bhp of max power and 620Nm of peak torque. This powerful engine would be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission setup which drives power to all the four wheels via Mercedes’ famous 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Taking into consideration the ban on diesel cars in Delhi, Mercedes is expected to also equip the GLS with a new petrol engine. This mammoth SUV is expected to carry a price tag of Rs.80 lakhs and post its launch on 18th May; it would rival the likes of the Audi Q7 and the newly launched Volvo XC90 in the luxury SUV segment.
