Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG launched in India at Rs. 86.4 lakhs
First of the 12 new models planned for this year, Mercedes-Benz has just launched the GLE450 AMG Coupe in India at Rs. 86.4 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The first coupe styled SUV from Mercedes-Benz is from the new GLE-Class of SUVs that earlier carried the ML-Class nameplate. Based on the conventional GLE SUV, the GLE450 AMG is one hell of a looker. Its front end screams Mercedes-Benz. The side profile boasts of massive 21-inch AMG alloy wheels and a flowing roofline that makes it look both gorgeous and sporty at the same time. The rear end on the other hand looks elegant and neat. The AMG kit helps it to looks much better than its standard counterpart.
Being a performance oriented SUV, let’s begin with its mechanicals. Powering the vehicle is a Bi-Turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that is good for churning out 362 BHP of power between 5500 to 6000 RPM and 520 Nm of torque between 1800 to 4000 RPM. The vehicle can sprint to the 100km/hr mark from standstill in a meagre 5.6 seconds. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. The GLE450 AMG comes with five different driving modes – Individual, Comfort, Slippery, Sport and Sport+.
The interior is finished in black Nappa leather, providing a perfect blend of luxury and sportiness. At the centre of the dashboard sits the touchscreen infotainment system which comes with an updated COMAND unit. This system comes mated to a superb Bang & Olufsen sound system that will surely make everyone happy regardless of their acoustic needs. Rear seat comfort is virtuous, however, headroom has been compromised a bit due to the coupe styling.
Mercedes-Benz has decided to launch the CBU imported GLE450 AMG after BMW introduced the X6 M not so long ago. It will be interesting to see which of the two cars performs better in the niche performance SUV segment.
