Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 petrol launched in India

Mercedes Benz GLE 400 Petrol

Mercedes-Benz, one of the country’s largest luxury car makers, has launched a petrol variant of its highest selling SUV, the GLE. This is the first time that the GLE has been given a petrol variant in the Indian market. The GLE has been an outright bestseller SUV for the German automaker. As a result, Mercedes has added another variant and fueling option to the GLE lineup to make it attractive for a wider range of audience.

The GLE 400 4MATIC has been launched with a powerful 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that is rated at 332 PS and 480 Nm. The solitary transmission option available with the GLE petrol is a 7-G TRONIC PLUS gearbox. Since the engine is driven through a Drive by Wire technology, Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the GLE with five different driving modes: Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual, and Off-road. Through the said different driving modes, the driver can adjust the gear-shift speeds, steering weight and feedback, and throttle response in order to suit the terrain and the driving requirements.

The SUV segment has been the fastest growing for Mercedes-Benz India for the past two years. But the Delhi Diesel car ban had taken a huge toll on the sales volumes of the German automotive giant. Though the ban has now been revoked by the Supreme Court, but it has left a long lasting impact on the market sentiments. Moreover, the lowering price gap between petrol and diesel has further resulted in an inclination of customers towards petrol models.

In order to cope and adapt itself with the changing market preferences, Mercedes announced that it will offer a petrol variant for all models in its Indian portfolio by September 2016. This has been a welcome change by the luxury car maker as it will attract those customers who don’t really have high monthly running to justify the presence of a diesel car, but do wish to get their hands on  a luxury SUV. The GLE 400 4MATIC petrol SUV has thus been introduced to target this very audience. It will be available across Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the country.
