Meet The Beast: All you wanted to know about Barack Obama`s official car
India celebrates its republic day on the 26th of January, and the president of the United States, Barack Obama will be coming over to ring in another year of freedom with us. Coming with Obama is “The Beast”. Yes, that is what his car is called, and rightly so. The 35th president of the United States John F Kennedy was assassinated while he was being driven in his open top Lincoln limousine. The Beast was developed to make sure that never happens again to any president of the United States.
The Beast also referred to as the “Cadillac One” has been “heavily modified” to say the least. A number of upgrades have been made, to ensure the president’s safety. Arrangements are always made before hand to transport the 8-tonne beast to every part of the world the president goes to. The car comes prepared to withstand heavy firepower and can protect the president, if anyone decides to attack him. It is 18 feet long and 5ft 10” high and can seat 4 people at the back. The body of the Beast has been reinforced with heavy armor and is completely bulletproof. A military steel plate runs below the car and can withstand a bashing from a grenade or bomb.
The windows of the Beast which can only be lowered 3 inches, can withstand military grade armor piercing bullets. The driver’s chamber has a communication system and GPS which sends information directly to the white house. The driver undergoes heavy training by the secret services, and is well prepared to handle the situation if it arises. The Beast comes equipped with integrated night vision, shotguns and tear gas in case it comes down to that. Blood type of all the family members of the Presidential family is available on the Beast, in case they are required. The armor plating on the doors is 8-inches thick and one of them weighs as much as the cabin door on a Boeing 757!
The president’s quarters has a laptop and direct line communication with the pentagon and white house, and can seat 4 people in comfort. Only the president can lower the partition between the president`s cabin and drivers chamber. There is an oxygen tank as well as firefighting equipment, and the tyres are reinforced with Kevlar and are impossible to puncture.
This mammoth of a vehicle weighs 8 tons and is powered by a 6.5 liter diesel engine, which has a top speed of 60 miles per hour. Not fast, but better safe than sorry right?
