Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol – the next big Maruti launch?
Maruti Suzuki has been leading the Indian automotive industry from more than the past three decades. The automaker is also expanding and updating its portfolio to tackle the changing market preferences of Indian customers. After launching the Ignis and the new-gen Dzire, Maruti Suzuki’s next upcoming car in India will be the Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol.
The Vitara Brezza was launched in India last year. At that time, the Indian market was predominantly dominated by diesel engines, especially in the SUV segment. However, with various decisions like the NGT ban in Delhi-NCR and the dropping difference between petrol and diesel fuel, the Indian market shifted its focus back to petrol engines.
However, the Vitara Brezza was launched only with a diesel engine. Hence, Maruti is now planning to introduce a new petrol model as well, which is likely expected to be launched around the festive season this year. This will further boost the demand for the Vitara Brezza, which already has a booking backlog of 40,000 units and a waiting period of around 2 months.
The Vitara Brezza petrol is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine. This is the same block that debuted under the recently launched Maruti Baleno RS. Under the Vitara, it is expected to develop 110 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There are no plans for an automatic gearbox at the moment, which is kind of strange as the Brezza’s chief rival – the Ford EcoSport already comes with an extremely refined and potent dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Seeing the price of the Baleno RS, we don’t really expect the Vitara Brezza petrol to undercut its diesel counterparts. However, it will surely appeal to people who don’t have longer monthly running to justify the extra initial cost of a diesel compact SUV.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol – Why is it necessary?
There is no doubt about the fact that the Indian car market has been inclined towards diesel cars from the last 10 years. This trend has specially been predominant in the SUV marketplace. But over the last year, various factors like the infamous NGT Diesel car ban in Delhi-NCR and the dropping fuel price difference in petrol and diesel prices have changes customer preferences in the market. This has prompted various automakers to introduce petrol variants of their diesel-only models. And with Maruti Suzuki, a petrol Vitara Brezza will enhance the car’s appeal as well as target audience.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol Launch in India
Though the automaker hasn’t yet announced the exact Vitara Brezza Petrol launch date, it will most probably be launched during the festive season.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol Price in India (Expected)
The most interesting parameter in this launch will be the Vitara Brezza Petrol prices. In the 6-8 lakh price band, Maruti currently has four best-sellers: the Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Swift and DZire. Keeping in mind that petrol variants are generally cheaper than diesel variants, the Vitara Brezza petrol would have started at Rs. 6 lakh rupees. This would have impacted sales of the Swift, DZire as well as the Baleno. As a result, the Japanese automaker has played it very cleverly by equipping the Vitara Brezza with an expensive and high performing BoosterJet engine, rather than the regular K Series engines found in the other three cars. This means that the Vitara Brezza petrol prices in India will start at a slightly higher price tag, thus making in enough room for the other cars of the stable.
We at MotorCruze expect the Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol prices to start from Rs. 7 lakh for the base variant and go to 9 lakh for the top-end trim (Both these prices are ex-showroom).
|Variant||Expected Price (Ex-Showroom)
|Base Model||Rs 7 lakh
|Top Model||Rs 9 lakh
Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol Specifications
As mentioned above, the Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol Specifications sheet will be quite different to other petrol cars in the automaker’s portfolio. The Vitara petrol in India will be powered by Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 110 BHP and 170 Nm of peak torque. The powerplant will be mated to the company’s standard 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine is the same power plant that will debut in the Indian market under the hood of the performance oriented version of the Baleno premium hatchback, named the Baleno RS. The Baleno RS will be launched in India during this year’s festive season. This will give enough time to Maruti Suzuki to judge the market response for the new BoosterJet petrol engine, and thus tune the Vitara Brezza petrol engine accordingly, to churn out the optimum combination of performance and efficiency.
|Engine||1.0-litre Boosterjet Petrol
There is no official statement regarding it, but we do hope that Maruti Suzuki introduce an automatic variant of the Vitara Brezza as well, either in the petrol or in the diesel guise.
Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol mileage (Expected)
We Indian are in love with our fuel economy figures of our cars. And Maruti Suzuki knows it to the core. Remember the Kitna Deti Hai advertisement campaign? It was Maruti’s take on India’s fuel economy love. Hence, the automaker knows how important the Vitara Brezza mileage can be for the product to be successful. And with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine onboard, the Vitara Brezza is expected to extract segment best fuel economy figures, as well as best combination of performance and mileage. The ARAI figure of Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol mileage will likely hover around the 20 kmpl mark.
