Maruti Swift Dzire diesel with AMT caught testing
The Swift Dzire has been one of the hottest selling 4-wheelers in this country. Maruti’s reliable name, coupled with brilliant engines (petrol/diesel) and trustworthy aftersales service, all these coupled together make the compact sedan a consumer favorite. But something was missing, and Maruti seems to have figured it out. An auto box!
Most of the Dzire`s competitors seem to have an automatic gearbox option. Take its nearest rival, the Tata Zest diesel automatic. The vehicle seems to be a hit, and Maruti wants to ride the success train.
Recently the Maruti Dzire’s ZDI (top end diesel variant) was seen testing with an AMT transmission. Given that the Dzire recently had a facelift, the car had no changes in its interior or exterior. The only addition was a swanky looking auto box. The ZDI comes with all safety features as standard, and the addition of an automatic transmission makes it more Dzireable (no pun intended).
Online reports suggest that Magneti Marelli will provide the automatic transmission units. This is the same company that provides the auto gearbox for the Celerio and Alto. It will in all probability provide the automatic transmission units for the Ertiga (seen testing earlier this year) and the Dzire.
The powerhouse running the Maruti Dzire is expected to be the same DDiS engine sourced from Fiat. The car will punch out the same 75PS of power, and have similar mileage figures as before (26.59 ARAI claims). The car spotted testing was a top end diesel variant, but even the petrol variants could also get the AMT option. The compact sedan is expected to launch later this year, most probably around the festive season.
Expect the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variant to be priced at a premium, but it would still be cost effective when compared to its rivals. If you are looking to buy an economical automatic transmission sedan, look no further!
