Maruti Suzuki has been the number one player in the Indian automotive market since forever. The company knows all the market sentiments and as a result has been doing so well in the country. It will soon be launching the Ciaz SHVS next week and the hybrid model will reportedly return a fuel efficiency figure of around 28 km/l, thereby making it the country’s most fuel efficient car.

The Indian auto major will be giving the hybrid technology to other vehicles in its portfolio as well. All models that derive power from the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine that is sourced from Fiat will be getting the Hybrid technology. The Ertiga SHVS will be launched in the country come October 2015 and this will be followed by the Maruti Swift SHVS and DZire SHVS as well. The upcoming hatchback and compact sedan from Maruti are both expected to return around 30 km/l and they will be making their debut by 2017 in India. The newly launched S-Cross crossover’s hybrid model launch remains to be a mystery as of now.

The new SHVS technology features a large capacity battery, start-stop technology and an integrated starter generator. Power regeneration will take place when possible and all of this will help in increasing the vehicle’s fuel efficiency by a substantial amount. The system will turn off the car’s engine when it is not moving and start it once the clutch is released.

Though the technology is imported into the country, prices of the hybrid models are not expected to increase by a very large amount thanks to a low excise duty of 12.5 percent and a subsidy of around Rs. 13,000/- provided by the government from the FAME initiative. The Ciaz hybrid is expected to become a more potent rival to the segment leader Honda City.
