Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback christened as Baleno
Suzuki’s upcoming product in the premium hatchback segment is nearing its global unveiling as we speak. The Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback was showcased as the iK-2 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and the Japanese car manufacturer has revealed that it will be called the Suzuki Baleno internationally. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? It’s the same name that a premium sedan from Maruti Suzuki carried when it was offered in our country a decade ago. The Baleno sedan did not manage to do that well, but nothing can be said about the upcoming hatchback as of now.
As a result of the similarity held with an older model, when the production version of the YRA hatchback will launch in India, it will be given a different name so that memories and characteristics of the sedan are not associated with the upcoming premium hatchback in any possible way. Suzuki also revealed what can be called as the first official picture of the upcoming vehicle as well. In India, the Maruti Suzuki YRA will go head on with the segment leader Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz, which got of to a flying start as well.
The Maruti Suzuki YRA will be powered by two petrol and one diesel engine – 1.2-litre K-Series petrol, the newly developed 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine and the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine. The company should be able to price the hatch well because except for the new BoosterJet engine, the other two are commonly found on other vehicles from the same stable. It will be loaded with features like cruise control (a segment first), engine start-stop button, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, all-black interiors and much more.
The YRA should be able to compete well against its rivals in India, if at all customers will be willing to go for the product that will be retailed via the Nexa range of premium dealerships.
