Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Xrest gets spied in India ; the tough looking tall boy hatch
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a popular hatchback in India for more than 14 years now. It seems that the Indian car market leader, wishes to add a new model trim to its old performer to spice things up a bit, called the Maruti Wagon R Xrest, this new version of the compact hatchback was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo back in the month of February. Recently, a production ready model of the Wagon R Xrest was caught while the hatchback was busy testing on the Indian roads prior to its market launch.
At the 2014 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki had displayed the Wagon R Xrest flaunting many exterior design changes. These included the most noteworthy feature of a wide black plastic cladding that ran all along the car’s lower body part. Other exterior features of the Wagon R Xrest include smoked projector head lamps and a newly designed radiator grille, a black plastic garnish around the air vents, dark tail light enclosures and silver finished bumper lip have been endowed on the new Wagon R Xrest to set it apart from its regular counterpart. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki has also incorporated new plastic roof rails that further add to the visual charms and also lend the Wagon R Xrest a slight aggressive and tough appearance than that of the ongoing model available in the market.
Maruti Suzuki is also expected to make the interiors of the new upcoming Wagon R Xrest more up-market than that of the current model. The cabin of the Wagon R Xrest is supposed to be draped in nice dual-tone upholstery of black and beige. The Wagon R Xrest test prototype that was caught testing on the Indian roads however did not sport the all important visual appeal of the black plastic body cladding all the way to the car’s back. Perhaps the test model did not carry all the features the Wagon R Xrest will actually get, or maybe Maruti will actually not offer the extensive package of exterior features on the Xrest as displayed at the Auto Expo.
The upcoming new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Xrest is only expected to come with a number of modifications that are only cosmetic in nature, while other changes on the fundamental level are not expected. Thus, the Xrest may be termed as a facelift or a more stylish version of the ongoing Wagon R compact hatchback. Under the hood, nothing is expected to change and Maruti Suzuki does not have any reason to change many things in the Wagon R as the car is still highly popular in the domestic car market and rakes up huge sales volumes despite its age. Thus, the Wagon R Xrest is very likely to be equipped with the same 1 litre K10B petrol mill generating 68PS of power and 90NM of peak torque paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Xrest will thus be, another pepped up version of the popular Wagon R similar to the Stingray.
