Maruti Suzuki Wagon R sales crosses 15 lakhs mark since year 2000
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a very successful car in India ever since its initial launch time. The compact car from Maruti has seen a good long fourteen years of market presence and is still popular among the Indian consumers. The Wagon R is the first in its segment that came along with a quirky styling of a tall boy design in a compact hatchback. However, the Indian car buyers readily accepted this different looking hatchback instantly, and this design itself has been its greatest selling point as it translates into the very spacious interiors of the car.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car maker has recently stated that the company has sold more than 15 lakh Wagon R units in the domestic car market ever since the car launched back in the year 2000. The Wagon R clearly created a wave of interest among the Indian car consumers, and the ripples of that huge wave still persists. The Wagon R is among those consistent selling models from the house of Maruti which still contributes greatly to the company’s monthly or yearly sales volumes. The Wagon R managed to sell a total 1, 56,300 units within the financial year 2013-14 itself. As the good old Wagon R’s popularity continues, Maruti Suzuki also launched the more premium version of the Wagon R in India, named as the Stingray. The Stingray comes with added style and bling with a good doze of chrome garnish, newly designed lights and better interiors that tell it apart from its regular counterpart.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is powered by an efficient 1 litre K-series petrol mill, which is capable of churning out a max power output of 68 PS at 6200 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. The hatchback is also available in a CNG version that is run by the same petrol engine. The Wagon R hatchback offers a fuel efficiency of 20.5 km per litre in its petrol avatar, and a mileage of 26.6 km per kg in the CNG version. In the cities such as Delhi and Mumbai where CNG fuel is more accessible for the consumers, the CNG variant of the Wagon R is more popular than the petrol variant, and accounts for over 50 percent of the car’s total sales in such cities.
The sales milestone of over 15 lakhs for a particular car model is really a great achievement for any car maker. On the accomplishment of this sales milestone of the Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki India’s Vice President of the Marketing department, Mr. Manohar Bhat said that the Wagon R which was launched in 2000, has been always amongst the top 5 bestselling car models in India. With its great space, comfort, efficiency and features, the Maruti Wagon R has always been a wise choice of the smart customers in India. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been consistent in remaining one of the most loved car models in India.
