Maruti Suzuki to open 250 Nexa premium outlets in India by 2017
Maruti Suzuki, India`s largest car maker launched the Nexa brand last year. This was a move by the auto maker to showcase itself as a premium brand and not just a seller of small cars and hatchbacks in the volumes segment.
In line with this strategy the company has opened up Nexa dealerships in 55 cities and Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce 250 such showrooms by 2017. As per reports Nexa is the fourth largest growing brand in the country and the expansion of these outlets will see the addition of 2500 relationship managers. There are a total of 99 Nexa outlets in the country and the 100th one was recently inaugurated in Thane, South Mumbai.
So far the Nexa showrooms have received a fantastic response from the consumers as Maruti was able to sell a whopping 40,000 units in the first five months. The company has aggressive future plans and intends to sell 2 million cars by 2020 and 15 percent of the total annual sales is expected to come from the premium dealerships.
Further reports state that Maruti is planning to launch a petrol variant of the S-Cross and the next-gen Swift in 2016. Moreover, the 1.6 litre oil burner which does duty in the S-Cross is not manufactured in the country as there is not much demand for the higher powered variant. Till such time Maruti will continue to import the engine to India.
The S-Cross premium crossover and Baleno hatchback are the two models which are currently sold through Nexa outlets. The next product to join the premium line-up will be the Ciaz sedan and the Ignis compact sports utility vehicle. The car maker will also be showcasing the upcoming Vitara Brezza sub-4 metre SUV at the 2016 auto expo next month. Apart from this the Ignis which looks like a hatch on steroids is also expected to make an entry later this year.
