Maruti Suzuki to launch new Alto 800 with a diesel heart in December
As per a recent report on Autocar Professional, Maruti Suzuki will be launching a new Alto 800 this December with a diesel engine. The new Alto 800 will be more fuel efficient and a lot of work has gone into making it sip even less fuel.
The current generation Alto which is available in CNG and petrol variants has an ARAI claimed mileage of 22 kmpl. The Japanese carmaker is working on making the petrol powered Alto even more economical.
The new Alto will most likely be powered by the 800cc oil burner that currently does duty in the Celerio diesel hatchback, which returns a mileage of 27.62 kmpl. The diesel motor produces 47.65 PS of power and 125 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This motor would be capable of achieving even better fuel economy figures considering the fact that the Alto is lighter than the Celerio.
The Alto 800 is one of the best selling cars from the Maruti stable, clocking 28 lakh sales for the company in the last 10 years. The forthcoming model will only help better those numbers, mainly with that fuel efficient two-cylinder oil burner. The Maruti Alto 800 rivals the likes of the Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Go in the entry level hatchback segment.
