Maruti`s Swift is one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the country and has managed to wow the customers with its sporty driving characteristics, fuel efficiency and engine options. Even today the Swift sells in decent numbers and is Maruti`s mainstay product. The popular hatchback from Maruti has received such a tremendous response from the Indian market, with the company selling 1.3 million units of the Swift during its ten year span in the country.

The Swift hatchback was first launched in 2004 in Japan while the Indian launch happened in 2005. Ever since it was launched the car broke a number of records and won many accolades. Launched initially with only a petrol mill, the hatchback touched the 1 lakh sales mark in 2007, but it was only after the diesel variant with the 1.3 litre DDiS engine was launched, that sales started to skyrocket.

With its rising popularity the Swift continued to woo the customers and breached the two lakh sales mark in 2008, while the three lakh mark came up in 2009. Five lakh units of the car were sold by Maruti in 2010, while the petrol powertrain was also upgraded to the 1.2 litre K-Series motor during this year. During this period the company sold another 5 lakh units of the Swift and reached the ten lakh mark in 2013. Finally in April 2015, the company reached the 13 lakh units sales milestone after a decade of the Swift`s introduction in the Indian market.

The latest version of the hatchback was launched in 2014, which saw the Swift receive minor updates to its exteriors and addition of some key features to the interiors. The 2014 model was also tuned to provide better fuel efficiency with the company claiming the petrol version to be 9.5 percent more efficient than the previous model. Maruti has many other popular models in its line-up and will be launching a premium hatchback, crossover and the diesel Celerio in the Indian market in the near future.
