The Maruti Suzuki A-Cross is seen here in production ready form hinting an early launch

Maruti Suzuki, one of the leading automakers of the country has never left any expectations unfulfilled and yet again, it proves that they deliver what customers demand by the news of its first ever crossover SX4 S-Cross aka A-Cross for the Indian market. Recently spied in its production avatar, the Maruti SX4 S-Cross seems to be the most promising new crossover in the country. Maruti plans to launch more vehicles catering to the premium segment and after the Ciaz, the A-Cross will be the next premium product from the carmaker.

The S-Cross Aka A-Cross will either be powered by a 1.6 litre diesel or petrol motor

The 1.6 badging on its boot lid as seen in the spy shots reveals that the A-Cross might be offered with one of the engine specifications. Either it is expected to be powered by Suzuki`s tried and tested 1,586cc gasoline motor or Fiat’s well known 1,598cc Multi-Jet diesel mill. In the European market the crossover is available with both these engine options. The petrol motor bangs out 120 PS of power and 156 NM of torque coupled to a 5-speed gearbox or an automatic unit. On the other hand, its diesel mill produces 120 PS with 320Nm of torque, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox option.

Being an International crossover, sold in many international markets, the company is in the thought of dumping its India bound ‘SX4 S-Cross’ name which might resemble the discontinued SX4 sedan and hence, will be known as the Maruti Suzuki A-Cross in the country.

In the European market the S-Cross is available with a 1.6 litre diesel and petrol engine

As seen on the Maruti Ciaz sedan, the company will launch its first crossover in variants like V, V+, Z and Z+.  The top end models of the A-Cross are expected to come with interesting features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, 16-inch alloy wheels, two-slat chrome finished front grille with projector headlights, navigation system and Maruti’s Smart Play infotainment system. Since the crossover has been spied in production ready avatar, we can expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the car sometime during mid 2015. When launched, it will rival the likes of other existing strong competitors like the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai ix25.

If you are planning to purchase a new SUV/Crossover, we urge you to wait a little longer for the A-Cross. Being a Maruti product it will surely tick most of the boxes on your checklist.

Expected Price: Rs 8 – 11 lakhs (ex-Showroom)

Launch Date: Mid -2015
