Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Sedan Spied undisguised in India ; Launch Next Month
Maruti has been facing the heat in the C segment sedan category from rivals like Honda and Hyundai. The SX4 which was Maruti`s only arsenal in this category has not performed well owing to the lack of features, and design language that was not appealing to the masses.
Maruti is all set to change that perception with the impending launch of the Ciaz sedan. The upcoming Ciaz sedan from Maruti has been spotted undisguised at the company`s plant in Manesar. A fleet of VDi and VXi variants have been spotted as shown in the pictures below. The front fascia of the Ciaz features a radiator grille with four horizontal chrome slats, swept back head lamps, and tail lamps that are similar to the concept that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The bumper is similar to the one on the concept but the fog lamps are circular in shape. Coming to the rear, the chrome strip seen on the concept is missing and we`re wondering why Maruti decided to omit it, since we Indians love chrome. The bumper features a pair of reflectors instead of the dual exhaust pipes as seen on the concept. The Ciaz gets wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators. The VDi and VXi models feature steel rims and we expect the top of the line ZXi variant to sport alloys.
The Ciaz will be available in both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel burner would be the fiat-sourced 1.3 litre Multijet engine which pumps out 90PS of power. The petrol model will get a 1.5 litre K-series engine which produces 95 PS of power. Both the engines would be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Maruti could also launch an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) version of the Ciaz.
The SX4 will be replaced the Ciaz and will directly compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala and Honda City. The car is expected to be launched during the festive season.
