Maruti Ciaz facelift launch details, specifications, major changes

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS hybrid

Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a mid-life facelift for the Ciaz sedan, which is expected to be launched in India after the 2018 Auto Expo.

It was earlier reported that Maruti will launch the Ciaz facelift in the second quarter of this year, in order to offset the increased competition with the facelifted City. However, Maruti simply moved the car to its NEXA dealerships chain, without any changes. This helped the carmaker to start a fresh marketing campaign for the car, and thus bring back customer attention to the C-segment sedan.

As a result, Maruti will now update the Ciaz early next year. This will help it to offer a fresher product to prospective customers, in comparison to its chief rival, the Honda City, which has already been given a facelift in the start of this year.

As part of the mid-life facelift, the Ciaz is expected to get revised front fascias which will come with LED projector headlamps with DRLs, a new front grille with chrome lining on the borders, a revised set of alloy wheels and revamped front and rear bumpers. A slew of feature additions are also expected to be made on the new Ciaz facelift, including a sunroof, new infotainment system, revised instrument cluster with coloured MID screen and cruise control.

Though there have been no official indications regarding the specifications of the upcoming Maruti Ciaz facelift, the automaker is expected to launch new 1.6-litre diesel engine with the updated model. This will be the same power plant that is currently found in the top variants of the S-Cross DDiS300. Maruti is also said to be working on a new 1.5-litre petrol mill for the Ciaz, which is also expected to be introduced with the S-Cross after its facelift.

As a matter of fact, in May 2016, Ciaz was the best-selling car in its segment, outnumbering all its other competitors like Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, and next-gen Hyundai Verna.

So here’s all the information we currently know about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift.

Though there is no official word from Maruti Suzuki about when the new Ciaz facelift will launch in India, we at MotorCruze expect it to make its Indian debut sometime in 2018. It is clear that the new 1.5-litre petrol engine is the only major change in the spec-sheet of the Ciaz sedan. This is an attempt to minimize the power distance between the Suzuki sedan and its immediate competitors. Currently, the Ciaz petrol has the smallest and least powerful engine in the segment, a fact that will likely be changed by the introduction of the new power mill.
