Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel Engine Specifications Revealed
Maruti Suzuki is soon going to launch their next success story and one of the most anticipated cars of 2015 in the Indian market, the Celerio diesel. Expected to deliver a mileage of 27.62 km/l, the upcoming hatchback will become the most fuel efficient car in India. It will be powered by a locally manufactured, small twin-cylinder 793cc turbocharged diesel engine. The engine will generate a maximum power of 47.65 PS at 3500 RPM and 125 Nm (hence the car will get the ‘DDiS 125’ badge) of torque at 2000 RPM.
Even though the engine just has two cylinders it manages to produce 0.16 Nm of torque per cc of the engine’s displacement. In comparison, the 1.3-litre Multijet, Fiat sourced diesel engine found on the Swift makes 0.15 Nm of torque per cc of its displacement. The amazing torque figure has been achieved thanks to the small but mighty turbocharger that has been fitted on the Celerio diesel. The weight of the 793cc engine is also one of the lowest as compared to conventional cast-iron engines, at 89 kgs, as it’s completely made from aluminium. The Celerio also gets a hydraulic clutch system, as compared to the normal cable-operated mechanism units found on other small cars.
The Celerio will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Beat diesel which delivers an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 25.44 km/l, which is relatively lower than the Maruti car. The first car even beats the latter when it comes to offering a larger boot, which for the Celerio is 235 litres as against the 170 litres offered on the Beat.
Everyone is expecting the hatchback to launch on 3rd June 2015. But this date has not been confirmed from the Japanese car maker and no matter what, the Celerio diesel is expected to do wonders for Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market atleast, if not the world.
