Maruti Baleno RS – All you wanted to know
Maruti Suzuki has finally entered the continuously growing segment of hot hatchbacks in India with the launch of the Baleno RS at an introductory price of Rs. 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car will be available only in a single variant and will share features with the top-end Alpha trim. It will be sold alongside the regular Baleno through the NEXA dealership chain.
The main highlight of the Baleno RS is its new engine. It is the first car in India to get Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre three-cylinder BoosterJet turbo petrol engine. While being mated to a 5-speed manual, this power plant develops 101 BHP and 150 Nm of torque. The added power needs some other mechanical tweaks to the chassis. Hence, Maruti engineers have equipped the Baleno RS with improved suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels.
A hot hatch package isn’t complete if it hasn’t been given some cosmetic upgrades. The Baleno RS too gets some mild tweaks to its design, though the uninformed might not be able to identify the changes in the first look. It gets new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, front & rear lip, larger 16-inch blacked out alloy wheels and a prominent roof mounted spoiler. However, the interiors have been left unchanged. We seriously hoped Maruti should have added a pinch of sportiness to the cabin by use of some contrasting elements on the steering wheel, dashboard and seat upholstery.

Maruti Baleno RS Exterior design
Maruti designers have made some subtle updates to the Baleno RS’ design in order to differentiate it from the regular model. These tweaks include a new bumper that houses a wider air dam which integrates the circular fog lamps. The rear bumper too is a new unit, with a larger blacked out area stretching up to the new number plate housing. The front grille gets a glossy black treatment on the mesh grille; something that we aren’t really a fan of. There is also a body kit on offer, which includes satin black front & rear bumper extensions and side skirts. The rear end also features a larger roof spoiler that helps to tone down the bulky derriere of the car.
