Maruti Suzuki Baleno launching in India on 26th October

Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback

After finally revealing the much anticipated rival to the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Baleno premium hatchback in India on 26th October 2015. The model that will be launched in India will be very similar to the one that was just recently unveiled at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show.

The exterior styling looks very good indeed and at par with the competition. In fact, the Baleno looks so premium that the Polo and Jazz look a tad more unattractive instead. Though the Elite i20 still continues to impress with its European styling. Anyhow, the major change for India will come in form of the engines offered.

The international model will be powered by the new 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine. However, this engine unfortunately won’t be available in India at the time of launch. The Indian model will be offered with the well-known 1.2-litre K12M petrol motor which is found on multiple other models from the same stable including the Swift and the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced MultiJet DDiS diesel engine. The petrol motor churns out 84.3 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque, while the diesel produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

But one good thing that the Baleno will offer in our country is a CVT automatic transmission with the petrol engine. It is important to note that the international spec model measures more than 4 metres, but the India specific model will be tucked under the 4-metre mark to get benefits from excise duties. The Baleno will carry a different name in India and will feature a very good cabin that will feature a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, a new instrument cluster, V-shaped uncluttered dashboard design and much more. Pricing will play a key role for the upcoming hatchback’s success in the Indian car market.
