Maruti Alto 800 facelift launching today
Recent spyshots have already revealed that Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a facelift of its entry-level hatchback, the Maruti Alto 800. And now, the company has officially announced that the Alto 800 launch in India will be scheduled for May 18, 2016. While there are no important updates in the Alto 800 facelift, Maruti expects to impart a fresh new life to the Alto moniker through this update, which is currently suffering from huge competition from the Renault Kwid. Additionally, the Datsun redi-GO, which is scheduled for launch on June 1, will also likely pose a threat to Alto’s long term dominance.
Changes on the outside include revised turn indicators in the headlamps, and a new grille that now gets slimmer. Moreover, the front bumper too has been redesigned, and thus gets fog lamp housings, and a larger air dam. Move to the sides, and the changes on the Alto facelift become even more subtle. The only design difference here are the new wheel caps that now get a sharper design than the previous version. The tail too has been kept nearly identical, though the taillights have been given a slight remap. As a result, there are no changes on the sheet metal of the Alto 800, and the same story continues under the metal as well.
The Alto 2016 facelift will continue to be powered by the same 796 cc petrol engine that is rated at 47 PS of power and a peak torque of 69 Nm. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and thus the powertrain hasn’t been fiddled with. Though there is no official confirmation yet, Maruti engineers might have tuned the engine a bit in order to extract a higher fuel economy.
