One of Maruti Suzuki’s most awaited product, the S-Cross has moved one step closer to its introduction in the Indian market as the vehicle’s production has begun at the company’s plant in Gurgaon. This comes to light after the S-Cross was showcased at the IIFA awards that were held on 7th June 2015 (yesterday) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to the large number of spyshots of the upcoming vehicle, it will get features like projector headlamps, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, and engine start-stop button, LED DRLs, keyless entry, automatic climate control and rear AC vents.

The compact SUV or crossover will be powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor (91 BHP) which is also found on the Ciaz sedan, a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor (90 BHP) and the top-end 1.6-litre diesel engine (120 BHP). The petrol and the lesser powered diesel unit will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the more powerful diesel mill will come with a 6-speed manual transmission.

It is still unclear as to whether an all-wheel drive version is on the launch cards or not. When launched, the Maruti S-Cross will become the company’s second premium product after the Ciaz to go on sale and will be retailed exclusively at the Nixa showrooms across the country. The crossover will give stiff competition to the dwindling Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and the upcoming Hyundai Creta. The Maruti S-Cross is expected to be priced around Rs. 8-11 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it will be launching in the first week of July 2015.
