Maruti Ciaz outshines the new Honda City in October sales

India`s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki has been the undisputed king of the small car market with reasonable price range. However, the Indo-Japanese car major has never found luck in the premium car segments of India which is now increasingly gaining popularity. Maruti made several attempts to crack the premium segments with the Baleno and the SX4, both of which were just mediocre market performers, while the more premium Kizashi and Vitara have been absolute sales fiascos.

Nevertheless, finally Maruti Suzuki seems to have found luck in the premium sedan segment of India with the brand new Ciaz. The Ciaz launched in October 2014 and is the latest C segment entrant which is very popular with several great selling models such as the new Honda City, Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Skoda Rapid and many more. Maruti Suzuki has received tremendous response for the Ciaz in India. So much so, that the new Maruti Ciaz has even outsold the C segment leader, the Honda City in its launch month itself.

The country’s largest auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki launched the new Ciaz targeting the segment bestseller “Honda City” which has witnessed stupendous success ever since it launched in January this year. The all new Honda City became the segment bestseller by outshining the previous pretty long time segment leader, the Hyundai Verna. The Maruti Ciaz has reportedly sold 6345 units in October 2014 outselling its biggest rival the Honda City which sold 5120 units in the same month.

Though it is still early to determine the success of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and tell whether it will remain the segment leader, as this could very well be an initial new product sales rush especially considering it is a car from the house of Maruti. Moreover, Honda has been also having some production problems for the last few months after the Mobilio’s launch. Nevertheless, it is a very good start for the new Maruti Ciaz which has been launched with many segment leading features. Maruti already has 17,000 bookings for the new Ciaz sedan.

The new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes equipped with the choice of 1.4 litre petrol as well as a 1.3 litre diesel motor. Both engines come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission as standard, while the petrol engine also gets a 4 speed automatic gearbox. The Ciaz’s price range starts at Rs. 6.99 lakhs for its base petrol model while the range extends to up to Rs. 9.8 lakhs for the range toping diesel model (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz offers many great features including the segment best mileage of 26.2 kmpl for the diesel variants and 20.7 kmpl for the petrol variants.
