Maruti Ciaz launched at Rs 6.99 lakhs in India
The most anticipated launch from the Maruti Suzuki stable this year is the Ciaz sedan. The Ciaz sedan has been launched by Maruti at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the petrol variant and Rs. 8.04 lakh for the diesel model. Advanced bookings for the car have been open since the first week of September and reports suggest that the response to the Ciaz has been quite good. A quick look at what the Ciaz has to offer –
Exterior: The Ciaz is quite a big car and boats of a wheelbase of 2650mm. It features the significant Suzuki grille, large wheels and a wide track which give it a plated stance. The Ciaz misses the aggressive styling seen on the concept car, but nevertheless it’s a good looking car and will be liked by a majority of consumers.
Interior: Ciaz is the longest and widest car in its segment. The increased legroom, headroom and shoulder room give you a sense of enhanced comfort. Critics mentioned that the SX4 did not boast of any features but that’s not the case with the Ciaz. Maruti has ensured the higher trim levels of the Ciaz are loaded with features. The car is equipped with reverse parking with camera assist, push button start, front dual airbags, touch screen infotainment system, navigation, voice recognition and playback, media connectivity, dedicated vents for the AC , rear sunshade, front centre armrest, and overhead console box.
Engine: The Ciaz will be offered with two engine options – the tried and tested 1.4 litre petrol engine which pumps out 91bhp and the 1.3 litre DDis200 engine with variable geometry turbo churns out 89bhp. Both these engines have been borrowed from the Ertiga and have been tweaked for better drivability and improved responsiveness. The petrol engine will be offered with a 5 speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. The diesel powered Ciaz will come only with a 5 speed manual powertrain. Maruti claims that the Ciaz is the most fuel efficient car in its class with the diesel delivering an ARAI certified mileage of 26.3 kmpl and the petrol pegged at 20.73 kmpl.
The Ciaz is being offered in four trim levels – V, V+, Z, Z+ and the top end trims come with all the bells and whistles. Maruti Suzuki had earlier launched the SX4 which is being replaced by the Ciaz. Maruti is trying to break the jinx that is associated with its premium cars not doing well in the Indian market with the launch of the Ciaz. This new premium sedan is styled smartly, offers good driving comfort, is loaded with equipment and is the longest car in its class. The Ciaz has all the elements to make it a success in the Indian market. It will compete with the likes of the new Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Let`s wait and see if Ciaz manages to shake things up in the C segment category.
