Maruti Ciaz hybrid SHVS to replace Ciaz Diesel?
Maruti Suzuki`s premium C segment car the Ciaz, has been a huge success in the Indian market. The sedan currently holds the second position in terms of sales with Honda`s City claiming the top spot. To give the Ciaz an edge over its rivals, the Japanese carmaker will be launching a hybrid variant of the popular diesel model very soon.
Spyshots of the Maruti Ciaz hybrid SHVS surfaced on the internet recently, but as per the latest news reports Maruti plans to discontinue the regular Ciaz diesel and replace it with the hybrid diesel.
The Ciaz Smart Hybrid Vehicle looks like the regular model with no changes to the exterior or interior. The major change lies under the hood, with the car transforming the energy generated by the movement of the wheels into electrical energy to charge the battery. This is accomplished with the help of a Brake energy recuperation system working in tandem with an Integrated Starter Generator.
The Maruti Ciaz hybrid SHVS is powered by the same 1.3 litre DDiS oil burner that does duty in the regular diesel car. The engine produces 89 BHP and 200 Nm of twist coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Ciaz in its non-hybrid avatar has an ARAI claimed mileage of 26.2 kmpl, while we expect the mild hybrid model to further enhance the fuel efficiency of the car.
Bookings for the Ciaz SHVS have already started and the car can be booked for an amount of Rs. 11,000, with deliveries starting from the last week of August.
