Maruti Celerio diesel to be the most fuel efficient car in the country
The Celerio diesel when launched will be the most fuel efficient car in the country. The diesel engine is claimed to return a mileage of 30.1kmpl.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT has been an instant hit since the time it was launched. The AMT transmission combined with the high fuel efficiency the car offered made it stand out in the crowd. Initially when the Celerio was launched the waiting period for the car was as high as 6 months. This simply shows how customers queue up for Maurti products and their trust in the brand.
What`s more interesting now is that Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Celerio with a Diesel mill. Yes you heard it right, a Diesel engine which will be the most fuel efficient in its class. This diesel engine has been self developed by Maruti engineers with inputs from Suzuki Japan. Till now Maruti has been using diesel engines developed by Fiat and this is the first indigenously developed diesel engine by Maruti Suzuki. The engine that will be powering the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel variant is an 800cc 2-cylinder motor producing 50 PS of power. This engine will also be powering Maruti`s LCV codenamed the Y9T. This 800cc oil burner once launched will be the smallest diesel powerplant available in the country. The engine has a claimed mileage of 30.1 kmpl which is the best fuel efficiency offered by a four wheeler in India. I`m sure the mileage conscious consumers are already smiling! Maruti will initially launch the Celerio diesel with a manual transmission and an AMT variant is also on the cards.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio`s sales are only expected to increase with the introduction of a diesel model. The car will compete with the likes of the Hyundai grand i10, Chevrolet Beat and the Ford Figo. The diesel mill will be offered in three variants namely – LDi, VDi and ZDi. The car will not feature any changes apart from a set of new alloy wheels. The prices of the petrol Celerio start from Rs 3.90 – 4.96 lakhs ( ex-showroom , New Delhi), expect the diesel Celerio to be priced higher by Rs 50,000 – 70,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The car is expected to be launched during the first half of 2015.
