Mahindra Xylo 2016 in the works, to be launched around Diwali
With the new Innova Crysta launched in India, the Innova`s price has gone up by a huge margin, thus building a gap where no major MPV is currently dominating. Mahindra has judged this potential in the price bracket, and has thus commenced work on the updated 2016 Xylo, which is still in the prototyping phases. Though major details about the second-gen Xylo aren’t yet available, it is obvious that the updated Xylo will be a bit easier on the pocket, as compared to the recently launched Innova Crysta. Mahindra will like to introduce the 2016 Mahindra Xylo around the festive season this year, in order to cap the surge of buyers that enter the market around Diwali.
Mahindra will likely add many new features and technologies to the new-generation Xylo MUV which will help make it look appealing. Thus, the 2016 Mahindra Xylo will come with larger seats and advanced features and technologies like a touch screen system with maps, Bluetooth connectivity, reverse parking camera, and steering mounted audio controls. All these steps will make the new Xylo a lot more refreshing than the model currently on sale, which hasn’t really been able to pull customers to Mahindra’s stable.
In the powering department, the 2016 Mahindra Xylo will be powered by a 2.0-litre mHawk diesel engine, which will likely be tuned to develop 120 hp of power, though exact power figures are still unknown. This engine will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while a 6-speed AISIN automatic gearbox might also come as an option. The new Mahindra Xylo MUV will be designed to target premium MUV buyers, while the base Xylo model will be aimed for commercial purposes. Moreover, Mahindra might introduce a 2.5-litre or maybe a 100bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine for the commercial market, which will help the daily needs of commercial drivers. This will be an attractive offer for private cabs, as the 1.5-litre mill would be immensely fuel efficient, and would churn out satisfactory power figures as well. The other engine option that might come with the new 2016 Xylo is a 2.2-litre petrol engine that will be able to generate about 165bhp of power.
In order to give the Xylo an all-new character, Mahindra will be using a new name for the next generation Xylo, similar to what it has done with the Quanto facelift, which is now called the Mahindra NuvoSport. Additionally, the new Mahindra MUV will also be built on a new platform, similar to that offered beneath the new Scorpio and the NuvoSport. This new name will help the Indian carmaker to revamp the product exhaustively by giving it a new identity, while the new platform will further enhance the driving dynamics and refinement of the MUV.
Once launched, the 2016 Mahindra Xylo price in India will likely start at INR 8 lakh to INR 13 lakhs (on-road).
