Mahindra XUV100 spied with less camouflage
Mahindra has learnt a lot in the industry over the last few years. The new Scorpio was a major improvement over the previous model and the recently launched TUV3OO has also got a good reception in the country. Its next upcoming product, XUV100 which goes by the codename S101 is expected to be a well-engineered product as well.
Having been caught testing once again, the lesser-intrusive camouflage shows what the production spec model will actually look like. The upcoming compact SUV carries a very high stance, much like the famous Ford EcoSport. Though only the rear and side profiles have been spied, the overall stance looks pretty nice and curvy, much against the TUV300 which has been criticised for its boxy look.
What’s new is the fact that the rear two doors of the XUV100 will feature Chevrolet Beat like handles next to the window, giving it a slightly sporty profile. The body panels towards the rear end are chiselled as well. The mule spied in the pictures is of a lower variant as it is seen running on wheels that feature well-styled caps. The higher variants will definitely sport alloy wheels.
Mechanically, the XUV1OO will derive power from the same newly-developed 1.5-litre, three-cylinder mHawk80 diesel engine in addition to the 1.2-litre petrol motor that is being jointly developed by SsangYong. Power will only be sent to two wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. AMT is also expected to be offered with either the petrol or diesel engine, if not both.
The XUV100 will be based on Mahindra’s new monocoque platform, which is the second after the XUV500. The six seater (3+3) will feature a bench up front, as a result of which the gear lever has been placed on the dashboard.
