Mahindra launches Scorpio and XUV500 with 1.99 litre engine for Delhi and NCR region
Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the most iconic Indian automotive brands in the country recently unveiled another up-gradation to their ongoing lineup of vehicles in the country. The company launched an all-new 1.99 litre diesel engine for the Mahindra Scorpio and the Mahindra XUV500. The new engine has been made in order to overcome the ban imposed by the Supreme Court on cars equipped with engines above 2000cc so as to keep in check the ongoing air pollution levels in the National Capital Region.
Mahindra & Mahindra acted very swiftly and in a very short tenure launched this new engine option so that the sales of their most popular vehicles remains unaffected. This new 1.99 litre engine is a trimmed down version of Mahindra’s 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The new engine now churns out 120bhp of power and 80Nm of torque in the Mahindra Scorpio. As for the Mahindra XUV500 the same engine delivers 140bhp of power along with 320Nm of torque. The Scorpio is now priced at INR 9.7 lakh to INR 12.8 lakh while the XUV500 is priced between Rs. 11.6 lakh to Rs. 15.5 lakh. The new engine will not be offered with an automatic transmission and will be available only in the 2WD guise.
