2015 Mahindra XUV500 12

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. seems to be enjoying the success of its flagship SUV, the XUV500 in the Indian market. The company recently launched an inexpensive Automatic Transmission (AT) option across all four variants of XUV500 namely W6 FWD, W8 FWD, and W10 AWD and FWD. The W6 FWD AT entry level variant is tagged at INR 14.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Previously the top spec W8 FWD, W10 AWD and W10 FWD variants of XUV500 had the option of an automatic transmission and are priced between INR 15.87 lakh to INR 17.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The XUV500`s automatic transmission is sourced from Aisin, Japan. With 6 gears, the Mahindra XUV500 offers higher number of gear ratios as compared to the traditional 5-speed automatic. The W6 FWD AT gets a second-generation transmission along with a planetary gear-train and torque convertor that improves gear shifts. Gear changes along with manual transmission responsiveness offer hassle-free operation of an automatic. The new automatic transmission along with the All-Wheel Drive option is available on the W10 variant only, it ensures that the vehicle`s torque is optimally distributed between the wheels to provide traction on slippery or rugged roads by recognizing the dissimilarity in RPM between front and rear wheels.

The two uphill climbing modes enables smooth driving on slopes while the intelligent all new transmission attunes to the mid and high altitudes. There is an option of ‘creep function’ as well which aids in slow moving traffic. The XUV500 AT fluid is stocked for life so that the cost remains low. The AT variant of the XUV500 was introduced in the country in November 2015. The company thus hopes that the availability an automatic transmission across all variants will make the car even more popular among Mahindra fans.
