Latin NCAP awards Zero Star rating to Chevrolet Sail

Chevrolet sail fails Latin NCAP crash test

Recently, the not so popular mid-sized sedan, Chevrolet Sail went through a series of tests conducted by the Latin NCAP agency, in order to find out the crash worthiness of the car. Post the crash test, the Sail received a Zero-Star rating for adult safety. This is a major setback to General Motors as the Chevrolet Sail has not been able to make a dent in the crowded sedan market in India.

According to the NCAP, General Motors ranks amongst the last in the safety department. According to the test reporter, the Chevrolet Sail’s body shell was extremely unstable and the protection offered to the driver`s chest and head was poor as well. All in all, it received a two star rating in child occupant safety. The agency asked General Motors to address this issue as soon as possible in order to make the vehicle available in Europe and other North American countries.

The Chevrolet Sail in India is offered in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant is equipped with a 1.2L motor that provides 83.6bhp of power while the 1.3L turbojet diesel engine generates 78bhp of max power.
