Land Rover to launch Discovery Sport in India by Mid-2015
Tata Motors owned Land Rover will be launching the new Discovery Sport in India during the second half of 2015. The Indian spec SUV will be powered by a 2.2 litre oil burner available in two states of tune – 147bhp and 187bhp. Both the engines will be mated to a ZF 9-speed automatic transmission.
It is highly possible that Land Rover will launch the India specific version in the HSE trim only. What this means is that the luxury SUV will be equipped with Land Rover`s new touch screen infotainment system, electrically adjustable front seats, dual zone climate control, panoramic sun roof, Xenon headlights and leather seats as standard equipment. Being a Land Rover the Discovery Sport will feature the tried and tested All Terrain Response four-wheel-drive system. What will set the SUV apart from rivals like the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 is the addition of a third row of seats. For many Indian consumers this would be a welcome news.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport will be assembled at the car maker`s Pune plant, so we can expect the SUV to be priced very competitively. Expect the car to be priced between Rs. 40 – 50 Lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). With the impending launch of the Discovery Sport, Land Rover will be phasing out the Freelander, with closure of Indian sales of the car by April. The Tata owned British automobile manufacturer is banking heavily on the new Discovery Sport to take the Baton from the highly successful Freelander, which has been its top selling model in India. The new Discovery Sport ticks all the right boxes and with its strong pedigree could prove to be a potent rival to established players like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
