Land Rover Discovery Sport

The upcoming Land Rover Discovery Sport is set to get going in India with a bang as the company has revealed that they have received more than 200 bookings for the vehicle. Bookings for the upcoming SUV commenced on 10th August 2015, which is not that long ago. Becoming the first product of the Discovery brand in India, it will be replacing the Freelander 2 model in the company’s portfolio. The Freelander 2 has always been doing good numbers and Land Rover will be hoping that the initial hype of the Discovery Sport continues to grow with time.

Mechanically, the upcoming SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine in two states of tune – 147 BHP and 187 BHP. Power will be driven to all four wheels with the Terrain Response system (4WD) and a 9-speed automatic transmission. To make the vehicle a potent off-roader, it will come with features such as Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Roll Stability Assist (RSA) and much more.

The interiors are also well appointed featuring a new InControl touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking camera, bi-xenon headlamps, leather seats and dual-zone climate control system as standard. It will have a ‘5+2’ seating layout, unlike any other SUV in the same segment.

Land Rover will be bringing the Discovery Sport to India via the CKD route, where it will be assembled at the company’s plant in Pune. The SUV will compete with the likes of the BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC. Land Rover should price it in the range of Rs. 45 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the country when it is launched on 2nd September 2015 and the vehicle is expected to perform well, thanks to many of the visual similarities it shares with the more premium Evoque.
