Everyone is eagerly waiting for Fiat to launch the much anticipated Jeep brand in India. The utility manufacturer’s debut has been delayed on a continuous basis. However, it looks like things will finally be moving ahead for Jeep because the company’s pre-launch website is finally up and running. Prior to an official launch, the website showcases models including the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited which will ultimately retail in our country.
The American car maker is looking to bring in its premium performance vehicles as well. Interested people will be able to view these cars at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in which Jeep has confirmed that they will be participating next month. For more information regarding all upcoming Jeep cars in our country, take a look at their website; but here’s an overall glimpse.
Flagship product will be the Grand Cherokee SRT. This macho and ultra-powerful performance SUV will derive power from a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine that is good for churning out 475 BHP of power and a massive 650 Nm of torque. This enables the SUV to hit 100 km/hr from standstill in just 5 seconds. It will be priced in the region of Rs. 1.40 crores (ex-showroom) and will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE63 AMG and the BMW X5M.
The entry-level product from Jeep, Wrangler on the other hand will be made available in India in just one avatar. The four-door long wheelbase Unlimited model offering a good 197 BHP of power thanks to a 2.8-litre diesel engine will be launched initially. The same model’s short wheelbase version will be launched at a later date.
Finally, the 2016 Grand Cherokee luxury SUV will also come in one variant – Summit. The vehicle will be powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine that will make 237 BHP of power available without any hiccups. Presently, no further details have been made available.
