Jaguar XE spotted at ARAI for homologation procedures, launch soon
It looks like Jaguar is all set to give rivals including segment leader Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi something to think about in the entry-level luxury car market as the XE is all set to make its debut here in India. The baby Jag has just arrived at ARAI in Pune for homologation procedures, prior to its launch in the country. The entry-level luxury sedan is a production ready vehicle that will compete with the likes of the Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series.
Mechanically, the luxury saloon is powered by a choice of two petrol and one diesel engine. The first petrol motor is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine that is offered in two states of tune – 197 BHP of power and 280 Nm of torque or 237 BHP of power and 340 Nm of torque. The second petrol engine is a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 unit that bangs out 335 BHP of power and comes paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is the same engine that powers the F-Type coupe, so you can imagine the power that’s available under the hood. 0 to 100 km/hr comes up in 5 seconds and the car can go all the way up to 250 km/hr, which is electronically limited.
The diesel engine includes a newly developed Ingenium modular 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit that puts out two power figures – 161 BHP of power and 349 Nm of torque or 178 BHP of power and 430 Nm of torque.
The single unit of the most affordable Jag was brought into the country via the CKD route with a price of Rs. 24.97 lakhs. This price is considerably lower than what its rivals cost in the market. If Jaguar can price the XE competitively, then it might just turn out to be the company’s game changer here in India.
