India’s first woman rider Shreya Iyer gets on-board TVS Racing
TVS Racing, the motorsport arm of TVS Motor Co., has signed a 24 year old woman rider, named Shreya Sunder Iyer, to be a part of the TVS Racing Team that will be participating in the 2016 National Rally Championship. This opportunity has made Shreya the first Indian woman rider to be a part of any racing team in the country.
This isn’t the first time for Shreya to be the first woman to do anything, as she is also the first Indian female rider to successfully ride across the sand dunes in Dubai. Ever since she started riding at the age of 17, Shreya has been a motorcycling enthusiast and has thus travelled across many remote places on her bike, including the isolated Suru Valley located in the Himalayas. The Bengaluru-girl has also ridden around 2,000 km in just 6 days during her recent South-India biking expedition.
The female rider has proudly commented on her new achievement by saying, “This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams.”
TVS Racing Head, Arvind Pangaonkar too has cited this association to be a turning point in the way women perceive the field of racing. He believes that it will further open new gates for similar women racers who wish to follow their heart out.
