India Kawasaki Motor expects to grow by a massive 30 to 40 percent in this fiscal

The Japanese two-wheeler maker, Kawasaki is aiming to get a market share in the very profitable premium superbike market of the country by growing up to 30 to 40 percent in the ongoing financial year of 2014-15, as per a company official. While speaking on the growth strategy of the company during the launch of the fourth Kawasaki exclusive outlet in India, the Deputy Director of India Kawasaki Motor, Shigeto Nishikawa told the media that in the last year, the company’s cumulative sales was 250 units. At present, the superbike market of India is growing at a very healthy pace of around 30 to 40 per cent per year on year basis. He added with a firm confirmation that the company is all set to grow along with the Indian premium motorcycle segment. He said that the company expects to grow with the Indian market.

At present, India Kawasaki Motor has authorized exclusive retail outlets in the cities of Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. He added by saying that the company holds less than 10 percent of the Indian superbike market while he declined mentioning the exact figure of the company’s current market share in India. India Kawasaki Motor offers many premium motorcycles in the Indian two-wheeler market, all of which are brought in as completely built units into the country and thus, they are very expensive as well. The premium models from the house of the Japanese bike manufacturer compete with the likes of Harley Davidson and Triumph.

One of the primary retailers for Bajaj Auto in Tamil Nadu named Jai Autos has now become partners with India Kawasaki Motor in order to sell the company’s superbikes in southern India. Nishikawa further said that while the premium motorcycles above 800 cc range will be sold under the banner of India Kawasaki Motor, the 300 cc to up to 650 cc capacity motorcycle models would be sold from the KTM outlets in India.

While pointing out to the fact that the Kawasaki Z-800 model was driving good sales for the company in the country, Nishikawa further added by saying that the company would also soon introduce its motorcycles in various new body color options including an attractive green color option apart from the existing black color. As per the Managing Partner at Jai Autos, A. V Jayachandran, Kawasaki will be soon launching a new 250 cc Ninja motorcycle model in the country. Jayachandran also added that this new Kawasaki Ninja 250 cc post its launch in India will be sold along with the 300 cc and 600 cc models of the line-up that are currently available in the market. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer currently retails the Z-800’s base model in India tagged at Rs 9.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai) and its top-end model ZX14 R is available in the Indian market for sale at Rs. 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai).
