Hyundai’s big plans for India; i30 launch during festive season
Hyundai is the second largest car maker in India in terms of market share. Ever since its debut in India all its products have been best sellers barring a few. The company currently sells five hatch backs in India and plans to bring the i30 five door version to India. Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice-president, marketing and sales, Hyundai Motor India Ltd spoke to Financial express and spelt out the company’s plan to slot in the new premium hatchback in the domestic market.
Internationally, Hyundai i30, a popular premium hatchback is offered with four engine options -1.6-litre MPi, 1.6-litre GDi, 1.8-litre MPi and a 1.6-litre VGT. The India bound version of the i30 is likely to be powered by a smaller engine and the company believes that like i20 and Grand i10, the i30 would also lure the attention of Indian auto enthusiasts.
Hyundai plans to slot the i30 above the i20 hatch back as the company feels that there is space for a more premium hatch back offering. The prices for the India specific i30 are not known, but reports suggest that the car would fall in the sub 10 lakh price segment.
There are also reports that Hyundai would launch the 2015 i20 in the market during the festive season. If that’s true we can expect some fireworks from Hyundai during this festive season with the launch of the i30 and 2015 i20.
