Hyundai to come up with a sub-4 metre SUV for India
After launching the much-awaited Creta SUV in India, Hyundai India seems to have already started working to bring out a compact SUV which will be tucked under 4 metres in length. Competing head on with the Ford EcoSport, Hyundai is very clear that it will be entering the segment very soon and give the somewhat lonely (in the sub-4 metre sense) Ecosport the much needed competition.
As Hyundai will be sticking under the 4 metre mark, their compact SUV will be eligible for excise duty benefits that will definitely help the Korean carmaker to price it very competitively in the market. The Sports Utility Vehicle will most likely be based on the Elite i20’s platform and come with loads of features and options, much like Hyundai’s current portfolio of cars.
Mechanically, the engines will also be picked up from the Elite i20 and its crossover counterpart which includes the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel and the 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine. No other details about the compact SUV are available as of now but considering the Korean car maker’s tactics in our country, the vehicle will surely be a very attractive proposition when launched in India.
