Hyundai Elite i20 Asta (O) gets 6 Airbags
Hyundai India has raised the safety bar of its top-of-the-line model Elite i20 Asta (0) by introducing 6 airbags. That said, the buyers will have to shell out more from their pockets as the petrol trim will now cost Rs 7.75 lakh, while the diesel trim will fetch Rs 8.99 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The Elite i20 Asta (O) was previously equipped with driver and passenger airbags only; it now gets additional side and curtain airbags. As per our understanding, the Korean car maker intends to keep the sales momentum steady as the festive season is fast approaching. The automatic transmission of the hatch is also being expected soon.
If you happen to remember, the car maker offered dual front airbags as standard across all trims of i20 and i20 Active since January 2016. Sporting no mechanical updates, the Elite i20 Asta (O) petrol continues to be powered by the Kappa VTVT 1.2-L engine that churns out power of 81.8 bhp and torque of 114.7 Nm. The diesel trim on the other hand, extracts power from U2 CRDI 1.4-L unit that produces power of 88.7 bhp and torque of 219 Nm. The much awaited automatic version is expected to be offered in just the Magna variant fuelled by a Gamma VTVT 1.4-L petrol engine. This powertrain coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission will churn out power of 99 bhp and torque of 130 Nm.
The powerful engine combined with an automatic transmission will make Hyundai capable of competing with Honda Jazz CVT, Ford Figo 1.5 AT, upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT. Coming back to the Elite i20 Asta (O), the features offered in the top-range model include 7-inch audio video navigation system, 60:40 split rear seats, projector headlamps having cornering function and many more.
