Hyundai Creta spotted testing; Interiors and exteriors snapped
South Korean automobile giant, Hyundai, is all set to launch its much anticipated compact SUV Creta next month in India. The car was spotted near New Delhi recently and its pictures leaked on the internet. Considering the increasing demand for SUV’s in India and the impending festive season, Hyundai has advanced the launch of this car by a few months.
Hyundai Creta is believed to go into production on June 20th at the company`s Chennai plant and the first lot would be available for consumers by July 21. The Creta Compact SUV will be available in both petrol and diesel versions and buyers will also have an option of choosing between manual and automatic transmission. Hyundai’s new SUV, Creta seen here is perhaps a mid-level variant with projector headlights, turn signals that are integrated on the wing mirrors, wiper at the rear, alloy wheels, and manual transmission (6 speed).
At present, six-speed manual transmission is available in many cars made by Hyundai such as the i20 Active, Elite i20, and Verna 4S. Experts believe that the Creta would be fitted with a 1.6 liter CRDi engine borrowed from the Verna though there are also chances that Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) might introduce a 1.4 liter petrol engine with a base model of the car. The Creta is expected to be priced between Rs 8-11 lakhs. This price range makes it a rival of cars like the Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, Nissan Terrano, and the Mahindra Scorpio.
Creta would become the 2nd new car from Hyundai this year following the i20 Active. Pictures reveal that this new vehicle is based on the i20 Active platform and it also shares many of its components with this crossover. There are rumors that the upcoming SUV would offer many features that are available only in the much higher priced Verna. The Creta will have dimensions of 4270X1780X1630mm and it will have a 2590mm wheelbase. These figures confirm the fact that the vehicle is certainly going to be spacious from inside. Top variants of the Creta would sport features like LED DRLs, airbags (4), ABS, EBD, etc. There are rumors that Hyundai would also offer the car with Front-wheel-drive and Rear-wheel-drive.
Hyundai is quite aware of the price sensitivity of Indian consumers. This is the reason it has kept localization level quite high at around 90% for the Creta. This will help the company to keep the price of this SUV down to around Rs. 8 lakhs. With the festive season approaching, Creta will easily prove to be a masterstroke from Hyundai with a wide list of features compared to its rivals.
Senior VP of Hyundai, Rakesh Srivastava, said that it is not the first time that the company has advanced the date of launch of its vehicle as the same thing happened with Grand i10 in 2014. He is confident that the Creta would be able to attract large number of customers looking for their first SUV.
