The premium hatchback segment is one of those segments in India, which has witnessed exponential growth over the past few years. With the Hyundai Elite i20 topping the charts in the Indian market, many manufacturers are mulling to enter the segment with capable products since vehicles in this segment continue grab a larger pie in the market with each passing day.

The Honda Jazz was first introduced in India in June 2009. The hatchback was an attractive and spacious offering in the market at that time, but wasn’t able to capture the mass market due to its premium pricing and the lack of a diesel engine. It was localized by 74 percent and was manufactured at Honda’s Greater Noida plant.
Honda recently launched the third-generation Jazz in different international markets (called Fit). The new Jazz was expected to launch a while back in India, but the company has been delaying it for reasons unknown. This model has been eagerly anticipated in the country and everyone is hoping that the Japanese automobile giant will get the pricing of the premium hatchback right this time around.

Honda has finally revealed that the new Jazz will be launching in India on 8th July 2015. The Jazz will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. The same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that powers the Brio hatchback, producing 90 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque, will also be found on the upcoming Jazz. The diesel engine on the other hand will be the 1.5-litre unit which is seen in the City sedan and Mobilio MPV as well. The diesel pot generates 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque.

The latest generation Jazz has become a massive hit in its native country of Japan and managed to sell 20 lakh units as of December 2014 itself. The premium hatchback will be a worthy rival to the Elite i20 and will compete with other cars in the segment like the Volkswagen Polo, Tata Bolt and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA.
